When it comes to a legal battle, Employment Lawyer Ozlem Yucel knows “how to play the game”. As a competitive chess player, Ozlem knows the importance of strategy and she knows when it is time to attack, when to defend and to always think three moves ahead.
Ozlem also offers a rare expertise to her clients. Having previously worked in the legal department at the Ontario Ministry of Labour, she has in-depth knowledge of employment and occupational health and safety law, from the government’s perspective. Knowing the ins and outs of how the government prosecutes and handles employment cases, Ozlem is in a superior position to strategically advise her clients when acting for them in employment and workplace law matters.
Ozlem has also worked at the Ontario Labour Relations Board, where she assisted judges deliberate difficult employment, labour, and occupational health and safety matters. It is Ozlem’s experience working closely with decision-makers that provides her with valuable insight on how to best pitch and win a case.
As a firm believer of empowering her clients, Ozlem spent her final year of law school working with low-income clients at Parkdale Community Legal Services (where she successfully argued cases before the Immigration and Refugee Board as well as the Immigration Appeal Division). She obtained her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. Ozlem holds a B.A. Honours (International Relations and Political Science) from the University of Toronto and graduated with distinction (in the top 10% of her class).
Ozlem has also worked at the United Nations Development Program and the G8/G20 Summits in Italy and Toronto. She is fluent in Turkish and conversational in French.
